LEDeG and the Sustainable Development Goals
LEDeG and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Advancing Local Action in Line with Global Goals
LEDeG’s work across Ladakh is rooted in the principles of sustainability, inclusion, and resilience — and aligns strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Through community-led projects in renewable energy, ecological development, waste management, education, and livelihood generation, LEDeG brings global goals to life in one of India’s most fragile regions.

Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3)
LEDeG organizes health camps and medical check-ups for sanitation workers and other vulnerable groups. Menstrual hygiene workshops for women and girls further promote health, dignity, and awareness at the grassroots level.
Quality Education (SDG 4)
Through hands-on training and awareness campaigns, LEDeG educates students and communities on sustainability, water conservation, waste management, and appropriate technologies, encouraging long-term behavioral change and skills development.
Gender Equality (SDG 5)
Women’s participation is integrated across all LEDeG programs. Projects supported by partners like BORDA and the EU actively promote gender equity, leadership roles, and income-generation opportunities for women.
Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6)
LEDeG supports decentralized wastewater management, sanitation safety planning, and improved access to water through technical interventions and partnerships with local authorities.
Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)
By installing solar systems and micro-hydro projects in remote villages, LEDeG promotes energy independence and climate resilience in high-altitude settlements.
Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)
LEDeG provides livelihood training, enterprise development support, and tools for self-help groups and artisans, creating green jobs and sustainable local economies.
Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
Solid waste management, eco-housing, and infrastructure improvements are designed with community participation, improving urban and rural resilience.
Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
LEDeG promotes low-waste living through composting, recycling, use of appropriate technologies, and awareness campaigns on resource efficiency.
Climate Action (SDG 13)
All of LEDeG’s programs—from solar architecture to water conservation—support climate adaptation and mitigation in the face of rapidly changing mountain ecosystems.
