LEDeG Kargil Chapter

About the Office

The Kargil office of the Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) serves as a strategic platform to bring long-term, community-focused development to Western Ladakh. It plays a key role in mobilizing CSR funds, government grants, and institutional partnerships to improve public infrastructure, promote sustainable livelihoods, and support cultural preservation.

What We Do

Our team works closely with local government bodies, communities, and sectoral departments to design and implement projects that are practical, inclusive, and region-specific. Current efforts include improving water access and sanitation infrastructure in collaboration with the PHE Department, promoting responsible tourism with support from the Tourism Department, and strengthening local governance with the backing of LAHDC Kargil.

We also partner with NABARD to enhance rural livelihoods through capacity building and micro-enterprise support. From women’s self-help groups to youth-led initiatives, the Kargil office is helping communities create sustainable and locally grounded economic opportunities.

Reviving Traditional Wood Carving

One of our key cultural initiatives focuses on the revival of Kargil’s unique wood carving tradition. This craft, known for its intricate geometric and floral designs, is being brought back through hands-on training by master artisans, tool support, product design guidance, and exposure to new markets through exhibitions and retail collaborations. The project not only preserves heritage but also builds a viable income source for artisans and young trainees.

Expanding Our Impact

The LEDeG Kargil Office is steadily growing into a full-fledged development hub for the region. With an expanding team and a growing network of partners, we aim to deepen our impact across sectors — from water and waste management to tourism, agriculture, and cultural enterprise. Our goal is to ensure that every intervention is rooted in sustainability, equity, and local ownership.
